Dr Irwin Hudson

Take Off Your Parent-Colored Glasses by Dr. Coach Irwin Hudson

Born and raised in Starkville, MS., Irwin L. Hudson, PhD, also known as DrCoach, earned his bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, with a minor in mathematics, from Mississippi State University in 1991.

In 1995, Irwin founded the best basketball training business in the state of Florida – OrlandoHoops, Inc. After positioning himself as a guru in the basketball training industry, Coach Hudson began coaching high school basketball in 1997. While coaching at several prominent schools in Orlando and working as a Systems Engineer for the Department of Defense, he went back to college and earned a master’s degree in 2013 and a doctorate degree in 2016. Hence, the name DrCoach was born.

As a coach, parent and player, DrCoach Irwin Hudson has experienced the parent-colored glasses perspective from all sides. This compelled him to author this book, create a podcast, and share his experiences with those who are navigating their way through this crazy world that he calls Competition Insanity.

DR. IRWIN HUDSON

Born and raised in Starkville, Mississippi, Dr. Irwin Hudson built a life around basketball — first as a player sidelined by injury, then as a coach who trained thousands. After earning his Ph.D. in Modeling and Simulation from UCF, “DrCoach” was born. Today he writes and speaks to help parents, coaches, and athletes see their sport — and each other — with clearer eyes.

COACHING SINCE 1997

Hampered by knee injuries that ended his playing dreams, Irwin earned a degree in Computer Engineering before basketball pulled him back in. He founded OrlandoHoops, Inc. in 1995, coached at top Orlando-area schools, and went on to earn his master's and doctorate from UCF — all while raising his daughters, Olivia and Audrey, and living the very “parent-colored glasses” experience he now writes about.
